Antique Victorian 15ct gold sickle and wheat brooch, c.1860s – 1880s

Dating to the last half of the 19th century, this exquisitely hand made and symbolic piece has been lovingly designed as a sickle and wheat sheaf. The sickle has been beautifully detailed with a graduated line of tiny seed pearls. Traditionally, the combination of a harvesting tool, the sickle, and grain, the wheat, represents a successful harvest, good fortune, and wealth derived from the land. With a pin and catch to the reverse and a safety chain.
