Dating to the last half of the 19th century, this beautiful antique piece fits neatly into the Victorian era. A treasure fit for royalty. Designed as an oval cut amethyst set in a rich and flamboyant floral detail frame, with a heart shaped amethyst suspended below. The exquisitely facetted central amethyst measures 16 mm x 14 mm, and radiates violet and lavender hues. The combination of rich yellow gold and purple is visually pleasing. Suspended from a gold chain, this Victorian pendant would look gorgeous resting on your décolletage and is a breathtaking testament to the elegance and style of the era. I adore the cutie heart suspended below ~ a typically Victorian sentiment. The level of detail to the gold work is superb, and the piece remains in excellent condition.

Amethyst was historically one of the main precious gemstones, along with emerald, sapphire and ruby. Amethyst became extremely popular in the Victorian era because major new deposits were discovered in Brazil, making the once-rare gemstone affordable and widely available to the booming middle class.

A beautiful and exquisitely hand made piece of Victorian 19th century jewellery.
